You don't have to have a certain credit score, provide a list of references, have a background check done, or meet other stringent criteria.
As a college student, thinking there are many requirements can be a big deterrent. It is so simple to rent a unit and the requirements are so easy to meet that many facilities allow you to rent a unit online. To rent a storage unit, you just have to provide a copy of your ID, fill out and sign a form, and pay the first month's rent. Renting online makes it so that you can move your things right into it when you arrive in town to start college.
You can bring all the items you want with you to college
If you are going to be staying in the dorms, then you will be limited to bringing very few items. The dorm rooms are very small, and most times, you will be sharing with at least one other student. This can make it very convenient if you later decide to move off campus because you will already have all your things in the storage unit.
